The unveiling of the Lincoln Navigator in the 1998 model yr necessitated that General Motors be healthy to compete in the burgeoning American securities industry for full-size luxury-type trucks. This genesis was only a quintuplet-seat SUV. Fearing the ontogenesis hegemony of the Lincoln Navigator, the Escalade was rushed through the design process to reach dealers cursorily. Au fond little more than a badge-engineered GMC Yukon Mount McKinley, the SUV's aesthetics were similar to the Denali and the final vehicle was smaller than the Navigator. The Escalade's underpinnings were borrowed from the Yukon Denali line, with the GMC logos on the center caps replaced with Cadillac's crest. The Escalade besides used the indistinguishable 5.7 L Vortec 5700 V8 at 255 hp (190 kW), which was underpowered compared to the Navigator's 300 hp (224 kW) and 365 pound⋅ft (495 N⋅m) 5.4 Liter InTech V8. Every last outset-generation Escalades featured Auto-Trac selectable 4x4. The 1999-2000 Escalade achieves 11 mpg‑US (21 L/100 km) city and 15 mpg‑US (16 L/100 km) highway based on U.S. Environmental Protection Agency test protocols.[2] [3]
The first-generation Escalade (atomic number 3 well as its mechanically identical siamese, the GMC Yukon Denali), was available in a single contour (one "base" trim even with one four-wheel-drive (4X4) drive train option), and enclosed a generous amount of standard equipment, with fewer options available. Standard equipment included sixteen-edge in chrome-arrayed aluminum-debase wheels, color-keyed front and rear bumpers and side facing panels, an OnStar in-fomite telematics and communications system, a top-of-the-line premium GM-Delco A/M-F/M cassette stereo with remote-mounted CD changer, automatic tone control (ATC), time, and six-speaker Bose premium amplified audio system, luxuriousness leather-cut seating surfaces with embossed logos in some front bucketful seating room, power-adjustable front bucket seating room with driver's store system, full power equipment (Windows, door locks, and heated side mirrors), a security alert, keyless entry, full orchestration, tri-zone climate controls for the head-on and rear seating area, bring up mood control vents, rear audio system of rules and climate controls, a full overhead comfort with storage, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with compass and temperature gauge, woods interior trim, a leather-and-wood-wrapped wheel with sail controls and embossed logo, self-acting front fountainhead and fog lamps, roof rails with preparation for an optional roof rack, among other standard equipment. While base MSRP of the 2000 GMC Yukon Mt. McKinley increased to $43,535 (up $460 from $43,075 in 1999), the Cadillac Escalade retained a base MSRP of $46,225 in both 1999 and 2000. The GMC Yukon Mt. McKinley enclosed a unique movement fascia and front and rear bumpers to differentiate it from its not-lavishness cousin, the GMC Community. The only other corporeal differences 'tween the first-generation Cadillac Escalade and GMC Yukon Denali were the emblems on the front grilles, front doors, set up tailgates, steering wheels, and front man seat embroidery. General Motors retains the original Cadillac Escalade produced at Arlington Assembly in 1998, a 1999 Aspen White model, in its Heritage Collection, VIN # 400001.[4] The only standard colors available were Silvern Sand, Sable Black, Aspen White and Bordeaux wine Reddened Ivory.[5]

GMT800 Cadillac Escalade (regular length)
Unlike its Chevrolet and GMC siblings, which launched for the 2000 mannequin year, Cadillac delayed the Escalade's switch to the GMT820 chassis until Feb 2001 A a 2002 theoretical account, the last of the three General Motors full-size truck and Sport utility brands to switch to the revolutionary chassis; Cadillac unveiled the 2002 model year Escalade in August 2000 at Pebble Beach, while continuing to sell the 2000 model year trucks. Erect-wheel drive was standard, as was a 5.3 L V8. All-cycle drive was standard along the ESV and EXT, and was optional on the short wheelbase Escalade. The special high-output Vortec 6.0 L V8 engine was the sole locomotive choice on each-wheel drive models whether information technology was the short wheel base, ESV, or EXT until middle-year 2005 when the 5.3L was dropped altogether. Mid-year 2005, all rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive Escalades came with the high output 6.0L Vortec V8. All models (except for the EXT) offered seating equal to eight people.
The "StabiliTrak" electronic stability control system was upgraded to a four-wheel adaptation, High Intensity Waiver (HID) lowly balance beam headlights, power-adjustable pedals and signal outside mirrors were added as a standard feature in 2003, along with a Bulgari-branded clock.[7] For 2004, XM Artificial satellite Radio, second-row bucket seats, and a exhaust pressure monitoring scheme were made standard on all Escalades except the EXT. Also in 2004, the Platinum variant Escalade ESV was introduced at a base Price of $71,025; it featured the luxury utility segment's first factory-installed 20-edge chrome wheels, a slightly lowered intermission, heated and cooled seats (front and back), hot and cooled cup holders, moon roof, 2nd and third row monitors, an domestic that included an ebony and shale dashboard, shale leather upholstery and pleated door panel bolsters, a chromium-plate grill, and a standard 6.0 liter V8 producing 345 hp (257 kilowatt). The OnStar system was upgraded for the 2005 model year and had become a whole number organisation or else of the analog system that had been in use.
In 2003, a year after their introduction, the GMT800-settled Cadillac Escalade and Escalade EXT received an inside facelift, while the exterior design was left mostly unchanged. The sound system was upgraded to offer two polar radio options: an AM/Frequency modulation radio with cassette and single-disc Candle players, or an AM/FM radio with a single-phonograph recording CD player and a touch screen GPS navigation system (Radio Information Organization (RDS) was also included with both radios). Both radio options enclosed a separate six-disc, in-dash CD changer unit affixed in the lower portion of the musical instrument panel, and controlled via the radiocommunication (the CD record changer still featured numbered buttons for disc excerpt, as cured as 'Load' and 'Eject' buttons). The Driver Entropy Center (DIC) was moved from a separate unit in the instrument panel to the mileometer display screen in the instrument cluster, where the gauges were also revised with the larger mileometer exhibit screen. XM Satellite Radio became available, and the OnStar telematics system controls were relocated from the control panel to the electrochromic inside rearview mirror (ISRV). A rise seat Videodisc entertainment system, which included two pairs of wireless headphones, and was produced by Panasonic, was also a new option for the 2003 model year. The instrument dialog box and steerage wheel both faced updated designs (the steering wheel now also featured remote audio scheme, OnStar, and speed (cruise control) buttons on the front of the wheel). The electrochromic at bottom rearview mirror (ISRV) now integrated the OnStar system controls to boot to the exterior (outside) temperature display and integrated social control compass. The strawma and second base and third-row seat designs were updated, and the Zebrano interior trim was replaced with Burlwood. The Escalade ESV (prolonged-duration exemplary) debuted for the 2003 model year. Finally, the warning chimes now played through the front driver's door speaker, as opposed to a individually-mounted gong faculty on 2002 models.
